Glastonbury ended their season on a high with a scrappy, but deserved 1-0 victory over basement side Odd Down.

The victory, Glastonbury's 13th of the season, has seen them finish in ninth spot – not as high as expected.

Glastonbury looked a good side at the start of the campaign, but a disastrous mid-season blip saw them slip towards relegation. The season ended well though and that was important for manager Matt Seaward as he starts building for next season.

The opening exchanges were fairly even and Glen Witts went close with a couple of early headers for the home side, while Francis Rolli twice found space on the edge of the penalty area to lift efforts a couple of inches over the crossbar.

The final third of the half was dominated by Glastonbury and they went close to taking the lead on the stroke of half-time with the best move of the game.

Jason Loxton did well to side-step two players inside the Odd Down half, before finding Danny Badman with his back to goal. The Glastonbury midfielder turned a defender with nonchalant ease before firing a shot towards the top corner of the net. His effort, however, was turned to safety by goalkeeper Andy King.

The Dollies should have been awarded a penalty on 53 minutes after Ian Howse turned three defenders on the left touchline and his cross into the penalty area set up Gavin Seaward, who had his shirt pulled by a defender in his run on goal, but referee Irvin Campbell saw nothing.

Glastonbury were now in control and King did well once again to divert another Badman effort to safety. The visitors scored the all-important goal on the hour when a superb break down the right channel from Rolli saw his cross into the penalty area find Danny Badman, who side-stepped a defender before firing a left-footed shot that flew into the net off the inside of a post.

Howse then went close with a cross shot that was cleared by Jim Jordon. Glastonbury had one or two late scares, but they comfortably held on for the victory.

Seaward said: "It was a bit scrappy, but it was three points and that's what mattered. We have struggled more against the teams nearer the bottom of the table for some reason, but that was an important win to end the season."
