It hopes to make a decision on the application submitted by Adrian Coots which seeks to build a surgery and attached pharmacy at Moorlands Farm, Moorlands Road.

The owner of Merriott Pharmacy, Max Punni, says bringing a GP surgery to the village will meet the needs of hundreds of people in the Crewkerne area.

He said: “I’ve been a supporter of this since day one.

“It’s my ambition that a medical centre would emerge in Merriott. With the buses being cut, the ways for elderly Merriott residents to access Crewkerne’s health centre have only got worse.”

A petition in Merriott has gathered hundreds of signatures in support of a new surgery.

Residents have expressed concerns over the housing plans. The parish council has supported the surgery scheme but has concerns about the overall development of Moorlands Farm.
