Directorial debut for Fiennes
Batcombe Film Society's next screening will be of William Shakespeare's Coriolanus (15).
In his acclaimed directorial debut, Ralph Fiennes has set Shakespeare's play in the modern Balkans and produced a visceral, action-packed film.
Fiennes plays the inflexible General, contemptuous of the hungry citizens' demands that grain be released from the city warehouses.
A successful raid on the Voscian city of Corioles diverts attention but his honesty and refusal to compromise lead to his going into exile and a doomed alliance with the Voscian commander Tullus Aufidius.
The strong cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, who is said to be outstanding as Coriolanus' mother Volumnia.
The screening is tomorrow night at 7.45pm at Batcombe Jubilee Hall, doors open 7.15pm.
