Difficult layout for market move

I, like many others, would love to see a thriving market in the Market Place. However, I don't think that it is feasible as the layout of Frome's streets give no real alternative route for the traffic.

The first difficulty is that the buses will continue to use the road, thus forcing stalls and pedestrians on to the pavements. How many stalls will then be able to function?

Also, the route to car parks will be cut in half. Of course, if we still had the Bailey bridge that problem would not arise.

The market needs reasonable rents and needs to be well advertised, then it should be able to expand where it is at present.

With reference to my market letter last week, I need to make it clear that the stallholders I have spoken to about the decline/move to the Market Place etc were from the Wednesday market. It always seemed the larger of the two.

I read on page 2 of last week's Somerset Standard that the Saturday market is likely to be relocated to the Market Place for a trial period of three months. Unfortunately, it was too late to go and ask those stallholders what they thought, as it was almost over.

Whilst I am glad that there is at last some effort to infuse life into the outdoor market, for the reasons given in my letter I am still shocked that none of the stallholders has ever been consulted. I just hope it all works out.
