A COUPLE in Crewkerne renewed their wedding vows on Saturday at the same church where they married 60 years ago.

Bob and Margaret Wills of Langmead Square celebrated their diamond anniversary with a blessing service St Bartholomew's Church, followed by a party with friends and family.

Mr Wills, aged 80, said: "We got our card from the Queen. We have not done a final count-up yet but we think we received nearly 100 cards. We had a great time."

More than 70 people attended the party at the Misterton home of the couple's daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Martin Rousell.

Mrs Wills, now 78 and originally from Crewkerne, first met her future husband in the town when she was 15. He lived in Chedington and their first date was a visit to the pictures in Yeovil. They married two years later, after he returned from national service with the Royal Air Force, and have lived in Crewkerne ever since, with 55 of those years in their current home.

Mr Wills was a plumbing and heating engineer and his wife worked in retail and in the offices of Bradfords Building Supplies in Crewkerne. They have three children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The couple enjoy caravanning and going on holiday to Spain, and Mr Wills said: "The secret of our marriage is always sharing everything and being open. We never have any secrets."

Mr and Mrs Wills also renewed their vows on their 50th and 25th wedding anniversaries.

They would like to thank everyone who made the day possible, for their support and for all the cards and gifts, and they now plan to donate some money to St Bartholomew's Church.
