Devon and Somerset air cadets remember Battle of Britain bravery
Air cadets gathered yesterday in a number of services to remember the bravery of colleagues who fought in the Battle of Britain.
Around 2,200 cadets from Devon and Somerset attended a service at Exeter’s Southernhay United Reformed Church, to pay tribute to the 544 pilots who died while fighting to save the UK from invasion in the summer and autumn of 1940. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall joined veterans at a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.

Devon and Somerset air cadets parade in Exeter to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Battle of Britain
In Exeter, the Vice-Lord Lieutenant for Devon Sir John Cave and The Lord Mayor of Exeter joined members of The Royal Air Force Association to mark the 72nd anniversary.
After the service, cadets marched through Exeter city centre, ending with a remembrance ceremony at the cathedral war memorial.

Warrant Officer Chris Collman, spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Wing Air Training Corps, said it was good for young cadets to revisit history, and to think of the fallen in current conflicts. He said: “It’s strange for them to think that people of their age were fighting in a war.”
