Deserved point
Bridgwater Town Reserves 1
Glastonbury Town 1
Glastonbury gave a good account of themselves on Saturday as they earned a well-earned point against the already crowned Somerset County League Champions, Bridgwater Town Reserves.
Bridgwater fielded an almost full-strength side, but for Glastonbury, who have flattered to deceive at times this season, this game proved once again what they can achieve if only they would believe in themselves more often.
The home side had the greater share of possession in the early stages, but the Dollies defended well.
Lee Hembury in the Glastonbury goal distinguished himself well in the opening period with two quality saves. The visitors began to make their own impression late in the half, but, against the run of play, it was Bridgwater who took the lead on 41 minutes with an Andrew Forward header.
The opening period of the second half was fairly even, but Glastonbury, to their credit, put in a dogged performance and their work rate and good passing movement saw them rewarded with an equaliser on 68 minutes when Karl Wills got on the end of a fine cross to score from 15 yards.
Surprisingly enough it was Glastonbury who might well have snatched all three points late on as Danny Badman hit a post with a decent shot after good build up play between Gavin Seaward and Adam Ruzutti.
Manager Matt Seaward said: "We worked really hard for the point and the most pleasing factor was how well we defended.
"In recent games we have not defended that well against set pieces, but everything came into place at the right time."
