Bishops Lydeard U14s Girls 5

Shepton Mallet U14s Girls 2

The pitch was sodden and Shepton started with eight players against Lydeard's 11, but they attacked from the whistle.

Naomi Marable opened the scoring after eight minutes with a strong strike from the right.

Lydeard are a strong and well-organised side and their attacks eventually bore fruit with goals that could have killed the game off.

In the second half, Shepton regrouped and their second goal five minutes from time was just reward for repeated attacks.

Olivia made an excellent diagonal pass to Naomi, who sprinted up the right wing and crossed strongly for Keeley to shoot home.

Lydeard supporters cheered on Shepton's skill and determination throughout the game, summed up by the Lydeard manager, who said: "If you'd have had nine players we would have been overrun."

Player of the match Emma Barnard.
