Delivering on time wins network service award for transport firm
A firm which aims to be on time with its deliveries 99 per cent of the time has won a national award.
Staff at Westfield-based Parker Transport are celebrating after winning the award for exceptional service.
Parker's fought off competition from 65 other transport companies across the UK to win the award from the Fortec Distribution Network.
It was in recognition of service and compliance levels in a network that operates on a minimum 99 per cent of on-time deliveries every day.
The award came as Parker's marked the ten-year anniversary of its association with pallet distribution firm Fortec and within a year of the company's own 30th anniversary celebrations.
Founder Kelvin Parker received the award from Neil Hodgson, managing director of Fortec.
Mr Parker said the relationship with Fortec had helped the growth of his company in the last decade.
He said: "We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Fortec over the past decade. It was the first and only pallet network we have ever joined but it has been excellent for Parker.
"The ethos of Fortec and its licensees is the same as ours – to provide each and every customer with a quality of service – so it is a perfect fit."
Mr Parker said he had been shocked when his firm was announced as the winner as it had been up among many strong contenders within the network.
Mr Parker founded the company 31 years ago with a single lorry after being made redundant from his previous job.
With wife Caroline as his business partner and Mark Parson as transport manager, he employs a team of 40 office staff and drivers, including his son Kristopher who manages their 30,000sq ft warehouse.
Turnover up to March this year was in excess of £4 million. Between 2011 and 2012 Parker's doubled the amount of pallets it was putting in the Fortec network.
The company has won a number of awards over the years – including International Depot of the Year on two occasions, in recognition of the number of international consignments it handles on behalf of the network.
