Delays to implementing speed-reducing measures on a road in Wincanton have been blamed on the recent bad weather.

In October, police confirmed a number of measures had been agreed with Somerset County Council to be introduced on Moor Lane.

Police said the county council's highways department were to improve road markings, as well as adding rumble strips near the junction with Common Road.

"Slow" signs are also to be added at a corner nearby.

However, three months on, the improvements are yet to be made.

A Somerset County Council spokesperson said: "We are planning to carry out the improvements as soon as possible.

"We need to wait for the road to be dry and clear of mud to be able to put the lines down.

"The wet summer and winter have delayed the planned works, which means it has taken longer than we anticipated on other jobs."

Calls to slow motorists down came in the light of quick-fire incidents on the road last summer.

In June, Debbie Jeffery had to be cut out of her car by emergency services after a collision on Moor Lane.

Weeks later, 19-year-old Nicola Parsons, of Kington Magna, was killed on the same road.
