Campaigners against the Hinkley Point expansion have issued their final response to the constructor's case for environmental permits.

The Nuclear Free Local Authorities has published its joint submission to counter the environmental arguments by the company behind the proposed new power station.

The Nuclear Free Local Authorities has organised a joint submission with the Stop Hinkley Campaign, Friends of the Earth Cymru and CND Cymru to the application for the permits.

The campaigners, using their own expert, list several reasons why it says it can have no confidence in the Environment Agency's draft decision assessment.

This includes evidence of what it describes as "signficant data gaps" which they believe make some of the conclusions unsafe and question why more up-to-date scientific work was not taken into account.

They point out that the Environment Agency and NNB GenCo have still not addressed their concerns about how some of the information was obtained. The campaigners are concerned that the hypothetical calculations for the dispersal of some of the radioactive waste into the Bristol Channel was made by computer software which is now deemed to be redundant, using data which is out of date.
