Dani Evans gets sixth call-up to Young Rider European Championships
The champagne corks are popping in Woollard after young event rider Dani Evans was selected to represent Britain at the Young Rider European Championships a sixth successive year.
She spent the first half of those riding Uchin, owned by her grandmother Heather Sheppard, in the junior team.
However, Evans has displayed her versatility in the Young Rider competition as she will be competing on a third different horse in as many years.
Having won individual bronze medal on Vanessa Watson’s Raphael II in 2012, she has this year elected after lengthy consideration to ride on an eye-catching Irish grey gelding called Smart Time, owned by an ecstatic Luana Edge.

A win on Smart Time in the Under 25’s CCI** class at Tattersalls in Ireland earlier this year made the selectors sit up and take notice, and consistent form throughout 2013 has earned them a hallowed place with the cream of Britain’s 18-21 year olds.
“It was a really difficult decision to make because both are such amazing horses and Raphael was fantastic last year,” Evans explained.
“But this year’s course is very twisty through trees and woods, and would suit a smaller more nimble horse like Smart Time.
“Luana has been an incredible supporter of Polly Williamson, who rode Smart Time before me, and I am delighted to be able to reward her commitment with the opportunity of enjoying such a brilliant occasion.”
The championships will take place in Jardy, near Paris, from September 12-15, with a string of loyal followers crossing the Channel to cheer Evans on.
