Dad and sons injured but doing well after rally car horror at Bath & West
"IT could have been a lot worse," said the medical officer overseeing the rally car incident at the Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet this afternoon.
South Western Ambulance Service Trust said it treated four casualties after a rally car went off the track and into a crowd of spectators at the Regency Stages Rally, organised by Weston-super-Mare Motor Club.
The worst injured was a father, suffering a head injury. He was airlifted to Bath Royal United Hospital due to the remoteness of the showground. Medics said they are now not too concerned about the head injury.
The dad's children, both boys, suffered leg injuries described as not too serious.
A fourth casualty was treated and discharged at the scene.
The incident happened at 11.50am. Police are to hand responsibility of the incident over to the Health and Safety Executive to determine what happened.
