Dad of London 2012 star Liam Phillips criticises Cheddar BMX track closure
The father of Olympic BMX finalist Liam Phillips has criticised the closure of one of the country’s top tracks in Somerset.
Writing on British Cycling’s website, Pete Phillips said the owners of Broadway House in Cheddar want to build on the track, which is to host this year’s British BMX Championships on September 15 and 16.
Owners Darwin Property Investment Management said: “Deciding to close the track was a difficult decision. The track was underused and there were a number of health and safety concerns about keeping it open.”

“Simple. Start up a club, charge a small fee to cover insurance. Keeps the races going and the young local stars thriving, and revenue flowing all year round as apposed to the current seasonal nature of the Campsite's income. Surely this could have been an option?”
