IN ANSWER to the letter "Any more Flats would be a disaster for crowded town" (

B&B Times

, August 26) I would like to respond to the paragraph "The children are hanging around… in large groups having nowhere to go, we have no dance hall or somewhere these kids could learn hip hop and other dances."

I recently refurbished The Old Creamery in Highbridge, on the main road, not a five-minute walk from the mentioned Highbridge Hotel in the same letter, into Curtain Call performing arts school.

We offer a range of classes for children and adults including hip hop, street dance and break dancing and all classes are listed on our website www.cur taincall-school.co.uk – please look us up.

For the past ten years we have been teaching from various church halls in the local area, but last year, despite the financial climate, I decided to take a big risk and rent a permanent home for my staff and students. Our new premises boast two dance studios with sprung floors, bars and mirrors, singing and drama studios, waiting areas, costume room and free tea, coffee and squash.

With all the good publicity about Curtain Call, Somerset County Council approached us with a scheme called Give It A Go.

We are now registered providers with this project, which grants funding of up to £300 per child for out of school activities. The funding is aimed at children who are either in care or are eligible for free school meals. In effect, this means a certain percentage of children in the local area can have free dance/performing arts classes at Curtain Call.

My aim in refurbishing The Old Creamery was to make performing arts accessible to all the local community and since re-locating here we have doubled in size.

There is no need for any child or teenager to be hanging around on street corners if they would like to learn to dance, sing or act.

So I say to everyone "Come on, give it a go with Curtain Call."
