Cup heartbreak for the Dynamos
Butleigh Dynamos 3
Arrow 4
Butleigh Dynamos suffered heartbreak in the Yeovil and District League Cup final at the hands of league winners Arrow.
The Dynamos took the initiative and the front runners of Will Edmondson, Brad Hefferman, Gary Lansley and Jamie Seviour showed fleet of foot to barrage the Arrow keeper.
In midfield, Leigh Bolton and Dale Hunt were first to every ball and between them found excellent space for the Dynamos to exploit.
Lansley raced past the keeper, only to be ruled offside, while Hefferman had a snapshot saved following fine link-up play with Seviour.
And then, with the swiftest of breaks, the game was turned on its head when Arrow took a shock lead against the run of play. A second came soon afterwards when a Butleigh defender lost his man who powered in a header from a corner.
A shock such as this may well have seen the Dynamos capitulate, but their team spirit saw them bounce back in to the game. Edmondson delivered a perfectly-weighted corner and Hefferman ghosted in at the back post to take the score to 2-1.
With the Dynamos dominant in possession and playing all the football, Will Edmondson swivelled on a ball drifted in to the box and forced it off an Arrow defender to equalise.
The defence of Jamie Bently and Rich Crees, along with full backs Stuey Rhymer and Chris Fletcher, played excellently and contained the Arrow attack for 30 minutes.
However, when the Arrow striker punched the ball past Fletcher and in to the area, Fletcher, incensed that the initial foul was not given, swept his legs away. The resulting penalty beat Jamie Winter and it looked all over at 3-2.
With Darren Philips, Charlie Lewis and Sam Edmondson taking to the field, an early ball in to the box took multiple deflections before trickling to Hefferman, who coolly tucked away his second goal to bring the scores level.
But with a minute to play, Arrow won a free-kick on halfway and an early ball was enough to break Butleigh hearts.
