Crews fight seven-tonne paper lorry fire in Yeovil

A fire ripped through a seven-tonne paper lorry in Yeovil this morning.

Fire crews rushed to the Preston Road roundabout just after 5am to find the lorry ablaze on the public highway.

The vehicle was also rolling down the road when crews arrived – with its blazing contents spilling onto the road for a stretch of around 50 metres.

 Paramedics treated one male casualty suffering from smoke inhalation at the scene.

Fire crews rendered oxygen therapy to the man before the ambulance arrived.

The burning lorry and paper was extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers and three hose reel jets.

The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.
