Manager Craig Laird is challenging his misfiring Weston-super-Mare players to rediscover a cutting edge.

Rock-bottom of the Blue Square South table after taking a solitary point from their opening four games, the Seagulls have mustered just one goal this season.

Weston are clearly missing Sahr Kabba, the free-scoring striker who moved to Havant & Waterlooville in the summer, and Laird, pictured, is challenged with the task of summoning an end product ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Hornchurch.

He said: “It is difficult to explain why goals are hard to come by, because we were creating and taking plenty of chances in pre-season.

“I have confidence in the players here to score goals and we just have to keep believing in what we are doing.

“It is still early days and no one should be panicking yet. It’s a case of working hard and making things happen for ourselves.”

At least Weston’s defence should be bolstered by the return of influential centre-back Matt Villis, who missed last Monday’s 2-0 home defeat to Truro.
