Fire crews rescued a cow stuck in a river near Yeovil.

A dog walker spotted the animal in trouble in the Mudford area at 3.15pm yesterday and called Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, which sent the specialist rescue team from Bridgwater.

Working with the farmer, they attached a cattle halter to the cow and led it to the riverbank before lifting it from the water using straps and farm machinery.

The animal was not hurt.
