Internationally recognised coracle expert Peter Faulkner will relish the tranquillity of Frome Show's lake, for he's recently travelled 90 miles down the river Spey in Scotland, from its source to the sea.

The journey involved trekking overland for between five and 10 miles from the river's source to the point where there was enough water to float his coracle.

Mr Faulkner is a specialist in hide-covered water craft, and will be showing how they are built and taking to the water in one during the show. His motto is: "The Greenest Boats Afloat" and his coracles are made from traditional and sustainable materials – willow, cut from his own willow beds, hazel sticks and cow hides from his nearby butcher.

"He also builds currachs, sea–going craft which have a framework of laths covered with a tarred cloth 'skin' and which are still in use in the West of Ireland.
