Mendip Ladies 1st XI 2 Yeovil & Sherborne 2

Mendip staged an impressive turnaround this week to draw with promotion chasers Yeovil and Sherborne.

The hosts were hoping to bounce back from their run of disappointing defeats and, despite having a shaky start, they proved that they were more than capable of matching the skill and strength of their opposition.

Yeovil got the early breakthrough and punished Mendip for a slight mix-up in defence.

Before long the visiting side added another goal to their tally when a powerful shot from the top of the D found the net following a penalty corner.

Mendip managed to pull a goal back with an excellent team effort starting from defence. When the ball reached Charlene Vranch, she displayed some excellent skill to drag the Yeovil goalkeeper off her line and send a textbook pass back to the penalty stroke spot for Sarah Hall to hit home.

Mendip continued to work hard but it was still Yeovil who were dominating proceedings when half-time arrived.

The hosts pressed hard from the beginning of the second half, trying to create opportunities to reward their good work, and they eventually got back on level terms when they were awarded a penalty corner, from which Jo Adam managed to tap the ball past the keeper.

This instilled some self-belief in the home-side, allowing them to stand firm and see out the match to earn themselves a well-deserved point.

The player of the match award was shared by Katie Selway and Louise Forster.
