The Wells Branch of Save the Children received a boost to funds on Saturday morning when James and Clare Stephen hosted a coffee morning at their home in New Street, Wells.

As well as coffee and lots of homemade cakes there were cards, decorations, crafts and present ideas for Christmas to get the season's shopping off to a good start. And while grown-ups shopped and chatted, children shared toys or carried out craft activities.

Wells branch chair, Nikki Rainbow, said: "I am very grateful to everyone for their generosity and especially those who donated the raffle prizes and other goodies.

"A total of £500 was raised which is fantastic. This is one of ten similar events we are holding in the run-up to Christmas and I would like to thank all those who have put such a lot of work in to the events which have already taken place and for those whose events are still to come. There will be one on November 14 in North Wootton, 21st in Westbury-sub-Mendip, 23rd in Dinder, 28th in Priddy and December 5 in Carlton Court, Wells.
