A coach trip to Basle is being organised to mark the 40th anniversary of the Swiss air disaster that killed 108 people, many from the Cheddar Valley.

Kay Adams of Cheddar and others are gauging numbers to see if there is enough interest to make the trip, probably on April 8 next year

The disaster happened on April 10, 1973. The plane, carrying many mums from the Cheddar Valley on a shopping expedition, struck a mountainside at Hochwald after overshooting Basle airport runway due to a snowstorm.

Most of the victims of the crash came from Axbridge, Cheddar, Wrington, Weston-super-Mare and Congresbury, and 48 children were left motherless or orphaned.
