Mr Johns ran a pyjama manufacturer in Yorkshire before ‘retiring’ to Exmoor, opening his private collection to the public ten years ago. Now he is retiring for a second time, and so sold off the museum.
Jonathan Vickers, Bonhams motoring specialist for the West Country, said: “We were privileged to offer the collection for sale at Beaulieu and we were delighted to see it achieve the prices it did.”
