Clarrie Dunbar bowler Russell Francis sets up clash with clubmate John Freeman

Russell Francis ensured an all-Clarrie Dunbar area final of the National Men's Singles Championships thanks to a 21-17 victory over Clevedon's Mark Woods on Sunday.

He will now take on John Freeman, who won his semi-final two weeks earlier, at a neutral venue. The match must be played by February 24.

The winner of that encounter will represent Clarrie at the national finals in Nottingham on March 28.

In the inter-area final of the Men's Over-60s Fours, Duncan Baxter's Clarrie quartet were edged out 19-18 by Taunton Deane.

Baxter was joined by Kenny Wilkins, Alan Brown and Mike Sawyers and they fought back from 8-5 down after nine ends to lead 14-8 three ends later.

However, Taunton recovered well to go into the final end 19-17 ahead and, although Clarrie were holding two shots, Taunton skip Don Fowkes drew second with his final delivery to secure victory.

Clarrie's ladies were handed a place in the second round of the Optika Top Nine national competition after opponents Taunton Deane conceded the match.

Graham Shadwell, the 2012 Clarrie club champion, travels to Hayling Island in Hampshire this weekend to play in the national finals of the Men's Singles Champion of Champions tournament.

Shadwell, pictured, who won the title in 2005, begins his campaign with a last-16 match against Alan Binns from Colydon at 8pm tomorrow.

Later in February, Shadwell, who is sponsored by AeroBowls, will travel to Australia to compete in three events.

On Saturday, Clarrie begin their defence of the Somerset County Double-Rink knockout competition with a match against Street-based Victoria.
