Circus skills help to stamp out bullying
CLEVEDON Community School has been focussing on anti-bullying initiatives under the slogan 'being different, belonging together', during Anti-Bullying Week.
The whole school and sixth form has been involved in a diverse range of activities including a new circus skills lunchtime club for pupils wanting to socialise or to talk to peer listeners, who will also roll out their new lunchtime patrols and merit scheme.
Director of Learning Rose Fox said: "As ever, the real strength of Clevedon's Anti-Bullying Week is the commitment from the students to highlight that every individual belongs in this community, and has a voice that can be heard.
"The focus has been on anti-bullying in the school curriculum - all Learning Challenge lessons have addressed the topic, there is a literacy focus in Key Stage 3 classes with students being invited to share their views on bullying in the form of poems, raps, diary entries, drama and stories.
"Key Stage 4 pupils have worked on speaking and listening with GCSE English coursework exploring issues behind bullying."
Mercury reporter Trudi Bird will be judging, alongside head teach John Wells and PCSO Linda Richards, the school's house competition to build a great wall of 'difference and diversity' from media, textiles and thought bubbles and presentation.
