Choir seeks new singers

Chew Magna Chew Valley Choral Society is inviting new members to join the choir as it prepares to perform Handel's Messiah for its Easter concert.

The choir will perform with the Pfretzner Ensemble at St John's Church, Keynsham, on April 27.

Christopher Lewis, from the society, said: "New members are as welcome as ever and there are vacancies in all sections."

Weekly rehearsals begin on Tuesday in the Church Hall, Chew Stoke, at 7.30pm.

Musical director is organist and composer David Bednall, and the group's professional accompanist is Sheila Rice.

Mr Lewis said: "Even if you have no previous experience of choral singing, you are welcome to come along and have a go."

Advice van visits village

The Citizens' Advice Bureau mobile advice service will be in Chew Magna on Friday.

Its van will be in the car park behind the Pelican pub from 10am until 12.30pm.

Advisers will be offering free and impartial advice on a range of issues, including employment, benefits, debt, consumer issues, discrimination and housing.
