Children rescued after school bus crash in Upton Noble - Updated: 12.30pm

Police and fire crews have rescued children who were trapped in a school mini-bus after a crash in Upton Noble this morning.

The vehicle was in collision with a 4x4 at around 8.50am today (Wednesday, March 20) on Cross Elm Road.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police they were called to Upton Noble to reports of a two vehicle crash.

They have confirmed the minibus was carrying children but say nobody has been seriously injured. Around 11 children were described as 'walking wounded', but they have since been taken to school.

The mini-bus driver was trapped in the vehicle. She was taken to Bath RUH for treatment.

"A few children have bumps and bruises but do not require hospital treatment," the spokeswoman said.

"The driver of the 4x4 was not injured."

Somerset County Council confirmed it was a contracted bus service to Upton Noble Primary School, which picks up 19 children and takes them to the primary school.

Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council cabinet member for transformation and highways, said: "Our first concern, of course, was for the children and the safety of the driver.

"There is a good safety record for buses in Somerset, and we await reports into what happened."
