Students from Frome after-school maths and English classes have gained national honours.

The youngsters each received a place on the Kumon Advanced Student Roll for outstanding achievement.

It lists the children who have excelled in maths and English beyond the level typical for their age.

Nine students will be receiving award certificates and medals, presented by their instructor Susan Gatward.

Six students will receive bronze awards, one will receive a silver award and two will receive the highest honour of a gold award.

There will also be an Inspirational parent award, to recognise their support and commitment to Kumon study and merit certificates for students who have shown great determination and commitment to their studies.

The youngest student is three years old and has been working on the Kumon English programme since he was two.

He will be receiving his gold award.

A gold award will also be presented to a maths student aged seven.

Kumon is a carefully structured and planned method of self-learning for children of all ages and abilities

Ms Gatward has run the Frome Kumon study centre for nearly two years. The aim of Kumon is mastery, which means achieving a high level of accuracy in a set amount of time.
