Chewton Mendip's Natalia Isherwood continues rapid pentathlon rise
Mendip Athletics Club's Natalia Isherwood recorded three personal bests at the under-15 English Schools Combined Events Pentathlon at the weekend.
She continued her rapid progress with a new best score of 2,963 points, finishing in seventh place, just 41 points away from fourth spot.
Isherwood, from Chewton Mendip, was one of only two athletes to finish in the top ten of every single event, starting with a fantastic victory in her 75m hurdles heat in 11.62secs, a new PB which put her in the top 15 hurdlers in the country in her age group.
She recorded 8.02m in the shot put to remain in seventh place and a PB of 1.51 in the high jump maintained her position.
Her 4.99m long jump lifted her to sixth place, earning her place in the top-seeded 800m heat to complete the competition.
A gutsy run of 2mins 33.22secs was a new PB and secured seventh place overall.
Coach Graham Norris said: "The results are all the more remarkable because Natalia is only 13, all the other girls above her in the final results will be moving up to the heptathlon in 2014, leaving Natalia learning how to cope with the expectation of winning the event next year.
"We are grateful for Avalon's Leisure's sponsorship for next year – access to their great training facilities will make a huge difference."
As well as being part of the Mendip club, Isherwood is also part of the Somerset Academy of Combined Events (ACE), which trains at Millfield from 6-8pm on Wednesday evenings.
