A Somerset woman returned to her home village tired but happy yesterday after completing a mammoth 14 marathons in 14 days. And Maggi Broadbent fulfilled her pledge of heading straight to her local pub for a celebratory glass of cider with friends and family as soon as she arrived back in Dinnington, near Crewkerne. The 21-year-old set out on her challenge with the aim of raising £1,000 for the charity Diabetes UK. But as she completed the last of her punishing runs, she revealed: "We know we have raised more than £2,000 online and about five pubs have said they have also raised hundreds of pounds." The 21-year-old set out on her challenge with the aim of raising £1,000 for the charity Diabetes UK.

The Manchester University maths and philosophy student, who decided to take on the challenge after seeing how diabetes affected a university housemate, said she was inspired by comedian Eddie Izzard's charity marathon runs.
