Cheddar residents relief as road chaos end is in sight
Major improvement work on the A371 in Cheddar is progressing so well that planned evening road closures are no longer necessary.
Somerset County Council has been working to resurface Church Street, Bath Street and Station Road over the past four weeks, and closures were due to continue this week.
But most of the work is now complete and the rest, such as ironwork adjustments, road markings and some remedial works to deal with surface water issues on Station Road, will be carried out during an evening under temporary traffic signals.
Councillor Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council cabinet member for highways, said: “I am very pleased to hear that the bulk of the works in Cheddar are already complete.
“While every effort has been made to minimise the disruption caused, we do appreciate that some will have been inconvenienced and so I would like to thank the local businesses and residents for their co-operation and patience while work was taking place.
“I would also like to praise our highways teams for working so hard to ensure this important project was finished ahead of schedule.”
