Checks reveal child car seat danger
Child car seat checks have revealed that more than 60 per cent of local parents are putting their child's life at risk by failing to correctly install the seats.
Last week Bath and North East Somerset Council joined forces with Avon and Somerset Police and Road Safety GB to pull over motorists with car seats outside Radstock Police Station to see if child passengers were safe.
More than 100 seats were checked with more than 60 per cent failing the checks.
While the majority were minor failings, several were for major faults such as the car seats not being suitable for the type of vehicle.
No one was prosecuted but parents were given advice on how to make the car seats safe.
Julie Dagnall, from Road Safety GB, said the Radstock figure was higher than the national average of 50 per cent.
