Check for diabetes at Shepton Mallet roadshow
A HEALTHY Lifestyle Roadshow stops in Shepton Mallet on Thursday for people to find out if they are at risk of Type 2 diabetes.
The Diabetes UK Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow, in partnership with Bupa in Somerset, is offering free, quick and pain-free risk assessments so that people can find out if they may have, or are at risk of developing, Type 2 diabetes.
The roadshow is on in Haskins Retail Centre Car Park in Shepton Mallet.
Diabetes is serious and can lead to devastating complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness or amputation. But, if managed properly, people with diabetes can live long, healthy lives.
Diabetes UK and Bupa are working together to help people reduce their risk of the condition by highlighting the risk factors and encouraging the public to live healthier lives.
At the roadshow event, a Diabetes UK representative will assess people by measuring their height and weight, measuring their waist and asking some important questions.
Graham Cooper, Diabetes UK South West Regional Manager said: “Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges facing the UK today. We estimate there are 7 million people in the UK who are at risk of developing the condition, and worryingly, there are around 10,000 people in Somerset alone that have Type 2 diabetes but have no idea they do.
“Come down to Diabetes UK’s Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow to meet our staff and check out your risk. It could be the best thing you ever do for your health and enable you to manage the condition from early on.”
