Chance remark led to hotel exhibiting art
A chance remark from her favourite waitress has led the new owner of a house hotel in Bowlish to become an unexpected patron of the arts.
The waitress confessed to a little artistic dabbling but when she served up some of her work, the manageress was so impressed she offered the hotel as gallery space.

When another of the hotel's waitresses admitted that her husband was an artist, the idea of Bowlish House Hotel as a salon for the arts was born.
Several pieces of the work on show have now been sold, including a huge portrait of the French Serge Gainsbourg, which caught the eye of a guest at the hotel, who just happened to be French. The painting, by part-time waitress Shelley Dyer Gibbins, amazed everyone by its technical detail.

Val Ashley, who took over the hotel last June said: "She really is an excellent artist, and was only waitressing for me for pin money. It is lovely to be able to offer her a chance to show her wonderful work."
The other works are by Frank Moogan, husband of waitress, Virginia, who does mainly landscapes which are so complex they appear like photographs.
Val said: "It is lovely to help local artists. If there are any other artists out there who would like to show off their work, please do get in touch."
The hotel's chef now admits he dabbles in a bit of steel sculpting.
