Celebrity memories in Somerset author's book aid Alzheimer's research
A Westcountry author is celebrating the successful launch of a star-studded “book of memories” in aid of research into Alzheimer’s disease.
Somerset writer Angie Cox raised more than £2,000 at the launch party for Forget-Me-Not, a collection of stories, poems and illustrations which includes contributions from the world of politics, music and business.

Famous names, including veteran singer Sir Cliff Richard, Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, BBC’s Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden and MP Neil Parish, feature in the book.
The inspiration for the collection came from Mrs Cox’s mother-in-law, Nina, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s six years before she died, aged 79, last February.

Mrs Cox, an office manager at Bow House Physiotherapy Practice in Langport, Somerset, said it had been “heartbreaking” to see Nina lose her “precious memories”.
“That’s why research is so important, it’s the only way to defeat this devastating disease,” she added.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the people who have come to support the launch – it’s been very successful and given us a great head-start towards our target of raising £15,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.”
Neil Parish attended the launch and spoke of how Nina influenced him, at the age of 22, during a Bridgwater Young Farmers’ debate.
“I remember she told me to ‘stand up, speak up and shut up’, and throughout my political career I’ve always thought of her words,” he recalled.
