A man has been airlifted to hospital after a cement mixer crashed on the A371 at Castle Cary.

An urban search and rescue team shored up the lorry so paramedics could reach the driver while fire fighters worked to release him.

Hydraulic cutting equipment and heaving lifting gear was used to free the HGV driver from the wreckage, according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

The crash was reported just after 1.30pm today. Fire crews from five towns were sent to the scene along with two air ambulances.
