Carers invited to 'take a break' as national carers pilot launched
CARERS across Bath and North East Somerset are invited to attend the free 'Give us a Break' event taking place at Lakewood Conference Centre near Blagdon on Monday 9th November. The event, run by Bath and North East Somerset Council, marks the start of the Council's 'Give us a Break' pilot project funded by the Department of Health, which will offer a series of short breaks free to carers in the area.
The event is a chance for carers to meet other people who are in the same situation, enjoy a hot lunch and find out how to get involved in a range of opportunities and activities. Importantly this is a free event and transport and replacement care costs will be covered. There is also the option to bring the person that is being cared for along to the day.
Rosemary Cole, cares for her husband, she said: "I have a busy and active lifestyle with little or no time for myself, in other words I am a typical carer. These breaks will give me the opportunity to extend my interests and a chance to meet other people in similar situations. Hopefully lots of people will attend and this will be the start of many good times ahead."
This is the first of a number of events for carers that will take place through the 'Give us a break' pilot project. The scheme aims to involve all carers including those who care for people who have had no previous contact with Social Services.
In order to make sure the scheme addresses the needs of carers in the area, a number of carers will be involve in steering, evaluating and monitoring the scheme.
If you are a carer and are interested in attending this free event, or would like any further information about the project, contact Ben Dallimore on 01225 477054 or email Ben_Dallimore@bathnes.gov.uk who will also be able to sort out replacement cover for you on the day.
