Carers face court over £33k theft
A FROME couple have appeared in court charged with stealing tens of thousands of pounds from the man's elderly grandmother while they both acted as her carer.
Shaun Brian Robinson, 47, and Deborah Ann Randall, 44, both of Longfield, Mells, appeared in the dock together before Somerset Magistrates sitting at Yeovil.
They were both charged with committing fraud in that while occupying a position as carer, and for Robinson also being the victim's grandson, they acted against the financial interests of Lillian Glenys MacDonald.
The charges detailed that while they had been expected to safeguard the 94-year-old victim, they abused that position intending to make a gain of £33,240 for themselves.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations and after hearing further details of the alleged offences the magistrates said the matter was so serious that it must be dealt with at Taunton Crown Court.
They adjourned the case against Robinson and Randall for them both to appear before a preliminary hearing at Taunton on Monday, August 19.
Until then they were both released on unconditional bail.
