Festive victories have demonstrated Yeovil Town’s versatility, according to defender Byron Webster.

The Glovers ended 2012 on a high with a determined 2-1 success at Portsmouth in npower League One and started the New Year by demolishing Leyton Orient 3-0.

Centre half Webster said the contrasting styles of success showed there was a dogged underbelly to Yeovil’s incisive creativity.

“We are showing two sides to our game,” he said. “We know we can pass it around but we have also got that grit and determination where we get in front of our goal and, as the gaffer (Gary Johnson) says, mother the goal. We have the big man (Marek Stech) in goal as well and he has been outstanding this year.

“I remember the Wycombe Wanderers game in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy when they got a man sent off early. It’s not boring and you sometimes want quiet games against good teams, but when you have got to concentrate for the whole game, they are throwing balls forward and you have to clear them, it’s enjoyable.”

As well as hailing keeper Stech, Webster extended praise to the entire squad that has guided Yeovil to within three points of npower League One’s top six.

He said: “I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want Marek to leave but he has done fantastically well and he is a great lad because he doesn’t get carried away.

“But it is not just him that is keeping us in the game. We have got Paddy Madden and James Hayter up top, Gavin Williams is coming back and everybody is contributing.”
