A WOMAN who was assaulted in her Nailsea home after burglars broke in on Monday afternoon is being treated in hospital..

The 50-year-old of Caversham Drive answered the door of her Caversham Drive home just after 1.30pm and at least two men forced their way into the property stealing numerous items including three laptops and a 423-inch flat screen television.

During the burglary the woman was punched in the face, and suffered a broken jaw, for which she is now being treated at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and know that some property was taken from the house in a fluorescent newspaper delivery bag.

One witness has already told police that three men were seen acting suspiciously in a lane which runs behind Caversham Drive, from the Golden Valley area into Trendlewood Way, shortly before the assault.

But enquiries suggest that up to four people may have been involved.

A black Mercedes car was also spotted in Trendlewood Way, the driver of which was revving the engine repeatedly

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and assault in connection with this incident; and are currently still being detained for questioning.
