Broken finger cannot stop record-breaking racer Ross Whittock
Ross Whittock drove through the pain barrier to claim a convincing win in the production class at the end-of-season South Western Sprint Championship held at Clay Pigeon near Dorchester on Sunday.
Driving the OS Build Mini in ideal conditions and with great determination, the Radstock racer also beat the class record – which had been in place for five years – by a tenth of a second.
Victory was all the more impressive as Whittock revealed: “It was touch and go I competed as I broke my finger in two places playing football for Chilcompton only three weeks ago.
“The doctors gave me the all clear to drive provided I kept them strapped up. I have been trying for this record for two seasons, so to get it on my last run was very satisfying.”
