Breaking down the barriers with a cross-genre mix
A poetic melee of hip-hop, funk and jazz is on the menu at Truro's B-side at Bunters tonight when The Breaks Collective take to the stage.
The North Devon-based band draw from all three genres and more to offer a refreshing and easy contemporary melee of words and music.
The seven-piece are poised to release new LP Audio Art, which is preceded by current single On The Hush.
The Breaks Collective took shape in 2005 when a local group of musicians collaborated in a series of jam-style gigs. This group quickly formed into a band and produced the Short Guy, Long Trousers EP, followed by the Broken EP an then the Finally LP. In 2012 they released four singles in aid of two national charities, raising their public profile.

They have played live extensively, supporting top names like De La Soul, The Nextmen, Toots and the Maytals, Courtney Pine and Gilles Peterson.
Opening the show tonight are St Agnes roots reggae band The Stalks, who will also be making their B-Side debut.
Breaks Collective also play at Exeter Phoenix on March 15 as part of the Vibraphonic Festival.
Bluegrass classic get some serious top-class attention
Five-string banjo player Leon Hunt has helped to elevate his chosen instrument out of its bluegrass niche by performing alongside some of the world's top musicians from all styles, backgrounds and disciplines, including Viktor Krauss, Tim O'Brien and English folk singer Kate Rusby.
But in his own ensemble – Leon Hunt n-Tet (with n being the mathematical symbol) – it is classic bluegrass that takes centre stage when they play two Westcountry shows this weekend. The current line-up features Jason Titley on guitar; he is a long-time on-off musical partner of Leon's, most notably through the 1990s with the band Daily Planet. Ben Somers – who has also played saxophone for artists like Dizzee Rascal, Girls Aloud, Seal, and Dr John – is on double bass and lead vocal duties. Joe Hymas – who can be found performing with a host of bluegrass outfits – completes the team on mandolin.
