Breaking: Crash plane sounded like a "stunt team" say witnesses
A light aircraft which crashed into trees close to Downside School in Somerset sounded like the “Red Bull stunt team” according to one witness.
The four seater aircraft with one person on board crashed in thick fog in the extensive grounds of Downside School between Shepton Mallet and Stratton-on-the-Fosse.
Other witnesses have reported that it sounded as if the aircraft was carrying out aerobatics.
It passed low over the village of Chilcompton and crashed into woodland between Stratton-on-the-Fosse and Chilcompton close to Abbey Road.

Chilcompton Farmer Andrew Coombes rents fields near the Abbey and said he had been rounding sheep up and sorting out lambs when he heard what he describes as the “Red Bulls stunt team” practising because of the noise.
Mr Coombes, who said it was drizzling rain and foggy at the time, said: “It sounded almost like stunt flying I thought it was strange because it was so foggy and thought they were above the clouds. Then I heard a sound like a van door slamming and then silence. I didn’t take a lot of notice but then I heard the sirens.”
Emergency services were called to the scene just before noon.
The male pilot is confirmed to have died.
Staff at the independent Catholic School said that all pupils were safe and well.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch is looking into the cause of the crash.
Police at the scene say that the aircraft was flying from Somerset to the home counties.
