Winscombe U15s 40

Burnham U15s 7

Winscombe entertained Burnham in their first game for nearly a month and came away with a 40-7 victory against opponents who have improved considerably when compared with previous encounters.

The enforced break due to the bad weather showed as Winscombe took time to settle and get their usual game together. The contest was fairly even for the first quarter until good work by Tom Day and Eddie Farmer put winger Nick Thompson in for the opening try.

Dan Bond then chased a long kick before releasing Thompson, who set up Sam Denham for the second.

Flanker James Martyn emerged from a maul on the 22 to sprint over for an excellent third try before Denham added the fourth after running in from halfway. Robbie Mackay converted all of these scores to bring about a half-time score of 28-0.

Winscombe rang the changes at half-time and it was Burnham who briefly took the initiative. The home side were penalised in front of their posts and one of the Burnham props forced his way over for a deserved try, which was converted.

However, Winscombe came back into it and some fine passing from the backs put winger Adam Male in near the corner. Peter Hooper was unlucky when his conversion hit an upright. The final score came from Farmer following a neat break by Charlie Pye. Hooper added the conversion.
