Shepton Mallet Res 2 Larkhall Athletic Res 2

Manager Dean Loxton came off the bench to inspire a battling second-half performance and lead Shepton Mallet Reserves to a draw against their Larkhall counterparts.

Rickie Scott had three good chances for Athletic in the first half, with Larks particularly strong down the left as full-back Matt Burge stood out. At the other end, Shepton's Dan Linham went on several promising runs but his eventual shots were poor.

The Bath side took the lead ten minutes before the break when Benji Thomas latched on to Burge's pass before Pete Applegate's challenge. Although his initial shot came off the keeper's chest he curled home the rebound.

The same player made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, bundling the ball in via a couple of deflections.

George Carey gave the home side a lifeline when he toe-poked past Sam Jones early in the second period. The match then turned into a midfield battle, with home boss Loxton showing the way for his side.

Just as it seemed the game would end in disappointment for Shepton, substitute Steve Emery made the most of some sloppy defending to earn his side a point.

Man of the match: George Carey.
