Book has tips for all gardener types
A new book by a Wookey gardener has hit the shelves.
Ornamental Vegetable Gardening by Sally Gregson was written in a year and includes colourful photographs and ideas for the new and well-seasoned gardener.
Sally is a horticultural professional herself, running a nursery in Wookey – Mill Cottage Plants – where she specialises in rare hydrangeas. She writes for The Country Gardener, with two regular columns, and this is her second book; her first being Practical Propagation.
In Ornamental Vegetable Gardening, Sally explains about good design and the use of colour form and texture, to transform a garden of flowers, vegetables and herbs.
It shows how to make a scale plan, choose materials, prepare the ground and look after vegetables organically.
Sally told the Journal that as yet, there are no plans to write another book as it took a year to get this one finished.
"I had to wait a while for all the plants to be ready for photographing," she said.
Ornamental Vegetable Gardening is printed by The Crowood Press and is available from shops priced £14.99.
