Blossoming at the grand old age of 100
A CARE home has celebrated the opening of a new garden and a loved resident's 100th birthday with a visit from David Laws.
The MP visited Knoll Care Home on Preston Road to cut the ribbon at the garden that has been revamped with disabled access.
The elderly residents, many of whom are in wheelchairs, can now get into the garden easier and also access the plant pots.
John Ledbury, facilities supervisor, said: "We are 100 per cent committed to supporting the residents.

"We've done out the garden so it's wheelchair accessible so they can get out there and do plant potting and play games – we want to make sure they have things to do and stay active.
"David Laws was brilliant, he didn't just pop in, he stayed for a few hours and had a chat with all the residents and looked around. The residents absolutely loved it."
The happy residents at the official opening of the garden included Phyllis Bryant, who recently turned 100.
Mrs Bryant was born in Colesbourne, Gloucestershire, and married in 1932. Her husband volunteered in the RAF during the war, and was posted to Rhodesia at the time their son, Bob, was born in December 1941. She moved to Ilchester to live with her son in 1997.
He said: "She has been blessed with astonishingly good health, and this, along with her wicked sense of humour, has stood her in good stead throughout her long and eventful life."
An avid fan of Deal Or No Deal, Mrs Bryant was delighted to receive a bouquet of flowers from the TV show's host Noel Edmonds.
