A Glastonbury craftsman has helped to customise a limited edition Gibson guitar for a client in Monaco – by covering the entire instrument in 24-carat gold and adding Swarovski crystal.

The Gibson Zakk Wylde Bulls Eye was stripped down before undergoing an incredible transformation to become the definitive bling instrument.

Expert Graham Baker, 50, covered every square inch of the base and strings in gold plate before painstakingly reassembling the exclusive guitar.

The instrument was then encrusted with 4,000 individual Swarovski crystals - each measuring exactly four millimetres in diameter.

It was commissioned by an anonymous Monaco-based British celebrity who ordered it as a gift for a wealthy friend and neighbour.

Kim Webber, of Kim Webber Guitars in Glastonbury, helped strip the instrument before sending it to gold-plating specialist Graham, who runs Gold2U.

Kim, 53, said: ''I was contacted by the client who is becoming quite a regular and asked to deconstruct the guitar, customise it and reassemble it.

''It's one of the most unique guitars I've ever been commissioned to work on.

''Clearly money is no object for our client, who I think has bought this one for one of his neighbours.

''Last year they bought a limited edition gold-plated Fender Stratocaster. This one is certain to raise a few eyebrows.

''It has 24 carat gold strings, which don't rust and the body has been encrusted with 4,000 individual Swarovski crystals.''

Kim has agreed not to reveal the identity of the mystery celebrity or how much it cost, but it is estimated to be around £15,000.

The instruments 24 carat gold strings have been especially imported from Germany and the maple neck has also been plated with 24 carat gold frets.

Four thousand individual crystals each measuring 4mm in diameter have been painstakingly encrusted into the instruments body.

Neville Marten, from GuitarBreak.com, said: ''I've seen some pretty amazing customising jobs in my 30 years of working on guitar magazines, playing and teaching.

''But Kim Webber and Gold 2U's Gibson Zakk Wylde Les Paul has to be among the most impressive.

''They've taken one of the world's most striking musical instruments and given it an incredible treatment.

''The craftsmanship involved looks simply stunning. It’s nothing short of a rock work of art.'
