Birds of prey swoop in to celebrate opening of school's new classroom
THE OPENING of a new classroom at Leigh on Mendip First School was marked with a visit from birds of prey.
Kestrel Class, taught by Sue Harwood, was introduced as pupil numbers at the school had steadily grown over the past few years.
The occasion was marked by a visit from Rachel and Alan from Mere Down Falconry who brought along birds with which the classes at the school share their names.
A kestrel, being the star attraction, performed a flying display much to the delight of the children.
The children were also thrilled to see an eagle, a small owl, a barn owl and a four-month-old eagle owl called Charlie.
The children spent an enjoyable morning listening to an informative talk from Rachel and Alan and were all lucky enough to stroke the birds too.
